Welcome

I'm so glad you found your way to our website. Here you'll get a sample and flavor of what Okemos Community Church (OCC) is all about. I hope you will visit in person, so that we get to know you and you get to experience first hand the love and joy evident in the OCC community.

We are an open and welcoming congregation. We expect that each of us will be at different places in our faith journey.

Questions are welcomed here. Opportunities to put your faith into action are many and you will read more about those opportunities as you explore this website.

Our goal as a church is to create a faith community where we journey together to build meaningful lives. Worship is one of the key areas where that happens. We look forward to welcoming you on Sunday morning at 10:00 am.

What to Expect

  • Worship

    • Our worship is traditional in style with a relaxed atmosphere. Music is a mix of standard hymns and some newer songs.
    • During the school year, clergy wear robes and stoles. Summers are more relaxed.
    • Worship music includes pipe organ, piano, chancel choir, handbells and children's choir. Read more about music at OCC by going to our Music page
  • When You Arrive

Our main entrance is on the east side of our building. Expect to be greeted by one of our Sunday morning support volunteers. As you walk through the lounge to the sanctuary, you will have opportunity to check in your children and youth for Church School or stop by the Welcome Center. Read more about Church School Check-In by going to the Church School page.

  • Welcome Center

A host is available before and after service to provide you more information and answer your questions. In addition to information, our Welcome Center host will provide you a name tag and a tour of the building.

  • Holy Communion

We practice an Open Table, understanding this to be Christ's Table where all are welcome. The Lord Jesus Christ invited you. There are no barriers to coming. You are welcome.

  • Sunday Morning EDUCATION

    • Children and middle school (Junior High) youth begin worship with their friends and family in the sanctuary. Children are invited to the front of the sanctuary to participate in "A Time For All." Following this time, they leave for church school (10-15 minutes into service). Read more by going to our Church School page.
    • High school (Senior High) youth may choose to remain in worship, or use Sunday mornings as an opportunity for service by helping with classes for younger children, preparing items for use in the children's ministry, singing in choir, serving as liturgist, serving as usher and more.
    • Bible study for adults takes place Sunday at 11:30am, September -May.
